Job Description

Job Summary

The Snorkeling Guide is responsible for planning, supervising, and leading safe and enjoyable snorkeling trips for guests. The guide provides safety briefings, assists guests in the water, identifies marine life, ensures compliance with local regulations, and delivers a high standard of customer service while protecting the marine environment.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Safety

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-trip safety briefings.
  • Assess guest swimming ability and confidence.
  • Ensure proper fitting and use of snorkeling equipment.
  • Supervise guests continuously during water activities.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
  • Administer first aid and oxygen when required.
  • Monitor weather, sea conditions, tides, and currents.
  • Cancel or modify activities if conditions become unsafe.

Tour Operations

  • Lead guided snorkeling excursions.
  • Select suitable snorkeling sites based on daily conditions.
  • Maintain guest-to-guide ratios according to company policy.
  • Perform head counts before, during, and after each activity.
  • Coordinate with boat captains and crew.
  • Ensure all equipment is loaded, cleaned, and stored correctly.

Customer Experience

  • Welcome guests professionally.
  • Explain snorkeling techniques to beginners.
  • Assist nervous or inexperienced participants.
  • Identify and interpret marine life and local ecology.
  • Encourage environmentally responsible behavior.
  • Answer guest questions throughout the excursion.
  • Take photos/videos when included in the package.

Equipment Management

  • Inspect masks, snorkels, fins, buoyancy aids, and wetsuits.
  • Report damaged equipment.
  • Clean, disinfect, and store equipment after each trip.
  • Assist with inventory control.

Environmental Protection

  • Promote responsible snorkeling practices.
  • Prevent guests from touching coral or marine animals.
  • Educate guests on marine conservation.
  • Follow Green Fins or equivalent environmental standards.
  • Report environmental hazards or pollution.

Administration

  • Complete daily trip reports.
  • Record incidents and near misses.
  • Maintain equipment checklists.
  • Assist with guest waivers and documentation.
  • Report maintenance requirements.
