Divemaster in Training
Location: Tobermory, Ontario

About the Role
Dive Life is looking for an enthusiastic Divemaster in Training to join our team in Tobermory.
This is a hands-on role designed for someone working toward their PADI Divemaster certification who wants to gain real-world experience within a busy dive operation.
You’ll work alongside Dive Life’s instructors, captains, Divemasters, and shop team while developing the practical skills required to become a confident and professional dive leader.
Key Responsibilities
Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) Support
Assist PADI Instructors with Discover Scuba Diving programs, including:
- Preparing and organizing student equipment
- Properly sizing and fitting BCDs, wetsuits, masks, fins, regulators, and weights
- Setting up and breaking down scuba equipment
- Helping participants get into and out of their equipment
- Transporting equipment to and from training locations
- Assisting instructors with organization and logistics
- Providing surface support as directed by the supervising instructor
- Cleaning, rinsing, inspecting, and properly storing equipment after programs
- Preparing equipment for the next group
The Divemaster in Training does not replace the supervising PADI Instructor and will only participate in instructional activities within the limits of their current PADI certification and training.
Dive Charter Support
Assist with Dive Life’s daily charter operations, including:
- Preparing rental equipment and customer gear
- Loading and unloading boats
- Helping customers transport and organize equipment
- Assisting divers with gearing up
- Helping maintain an organized and safe boat deck
- Assisting with mooring and dock operations as directed by the captain
- Providing surface support for divers
- Helping divers enter and exit the water
- Tracking and organizing rental equipment
- Unloading, rinsing, and storing equipment following charters
- Helping prepare boats and equipment for the next departure
As experience and training progress, opportunities may be available to assist Divemasters and Instructors with additional dive activities within PADI standards.
Snorkel Tours
Assist with Dive Life’s snorkel tours and private snorkel charters, including:
- Preparing masks, snorkels, fins, wetsuits, and flotation equipment
- Properly fitting guests with rental equipment
- Helping guests understand basic equipment use
- Loading and unloading snorkel equipment
- Assisting guests entering and exiting the boat and water
- Providing in-water support where appropriate
- Helping maintain a fun, professional, and welcoming experience
- Cleaning and organizing equipment after each tour
Dive Shop & Daily Operations
As part of the Dive Life team, you’ll also help with the everyday work required to keep a busy dive operation running smoothly.
This may include:
- Preparing rental equipment
- Filling and moving cylinders as permitted by training and company procedures
- Cleaning and organizing equipment
- Maintaining rental areas and gear storage
- Assisting customers around the shop
- Helping with general cleaning and facility organization
- Preparing equipment for courses, charters, and snorkel tours
- Helping with dock and boat operations
- Assisting instructors, Divemasters, captains, and other team members as needed
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Currently working toward becoming a PADI Divemaster
- Passionate about scuba diving and interested in becoming a dive professional
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to work hard
- Friendly and comfortable interacting with customers
- Safety-conscious and able to follow direction
- Comfortable working around boats and water
- Physically capable of moving scuba cylinders and dive equipment
- Organized and attentive to detail
- Willing to learn and accept feedback
- Comfortable working outdoors in changing Tobermory weather
- Available to work weekends, holidays, and during our busiest summer periods
