Job Description
The Dive Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and professional management of the resort’s scuba diving operation, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with company standards, PADI requirements, local maritime regulations and established safety procedures.
The position provides direct leadership and operational oversight of the dive team, with responsibility for maintaining a highly organized, guest-focused and commercially productive dive operation, including the achievement of established departmental revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities
The Dive Manager will:
– Provide daily leadership, supervision and deployment of Dive Instructors, Divemasters, boat crews and other team members assigned to the dive operation.
– Ensure all scuba diving activities are conducted in accordance with PADI standards, company policies and applicable Bahamian maritime and safety requirements.
– Coordinate the daily dive schedule, including certification courses, introductory programs, certified diver trips, specialty activities and other approved dive experiences.
– Meet or exceed established monthly and annual revenue targets for the dive operation.
– Drive revenue through the active promotion and sale of certification courses, specialty courses, introductory programs, private diving and other approved revenue-generating dive experiences.
– Monitor revenue performance, guest participation, course enrollment and other operational KPIs, implementing corrective strategies where performance is below target.
– Develop the dive team’s ability to identify sales opportunities, effectively communicate available programs and convert guest interest into participation while maintaining appropriate service standards.
– Work closely with the Watersports Manager and resort leadership to ensure appropriate manpower, vessel availability and operational coverage.
– Maintain high standards of guest interaction and ensure that the dive experience consistently reflects Sandals service expectations.
– Maintain accountability for scuba equipment, including regulators, BCDs, cylinders, weights, masks, fins and other dive-related assets.
– Ensure preventative maintenance, inspections and servicing of dive equipment are completed and properly documented.
– Maintain appropriate control and documentation of scuba cylinders, compressor operations, air-quality testing and cylinder inspection requirements.
– Ensure dive boats are properly prepared for each operation and carry all required safety, emergency and dive-support equipment.
– Maintain readiness of oxygen units, first-aid equipment, communication equipment and other emergency-response resources.
– Conduct regular safety checks, equipment inspections and operational audits and immediately address identified deficiencies.
– Ensure appropriate emergency action plans are established, understood by the team and regularly reviewed and practiced.
– Monitor weather, sea conditions and other environmental factors and make operational decisions that prioritize guest and team-member safety.
– Develop the dive team through coaching, training, skills development and regular assessment of professional, operational and sales performance.
– Maintain accurate records relating to dives, certifications, revenue, equipment, maintenance, incidents, training and other required operational documentation.
– Support departmental budgeting and cost-control initiatives by monitoring equipment usage, maintenance expenditure, inventory and operational requirements.
– Coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, Security, Front Office, Guest Services and other departments where necessary to support the effective operation of the dive program.
– Immediately report accidents, incidents, equipment failures or significant operational concerns through the appropriate management channels and ensure required documentation and follow-up actions are completed.
Performance Expectations
Success in the Dive Manager position should be reflected through a safe and compliant operation, achievement of established revenue targets, strong team performance, excellent equipment readiness, accurate documentation, effective cost management and consistently high guest satisfaction.
The Dive Manager is expected to maintain an active leadership presence within the operation rather than functioning solely in an administrative capacity. The position requires regular engagement with the dive team, vessels, equipment, dive sites and guests to ensure company standards are consistently demonstrated in daily operations.
Ultimately, the Dive Manager is accountable for creating a dive operation in which safety, professionalism, revenue performance, equipment readiness, team development and exceptional guest experiences operate as one integrated standard.
