Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and confident skipper to take charge of our vessels, safely navigating local conditions while delivering unforgettable experiences on our snorkeling, dive, and whale-watching charters.

Key responsibilities

  • Command and operate vessels safely, professionally, and decisively in varied sea conditions
  • Lead snorkeling tours, scuba dive trips, and seasonal whale-watching charters with full operational confidence
  • Deliver world-class guest experiences while maintaining seamless vessel control
  • Uphold rigorous safety management procedures to protect passengers and crew at all times
  • Master challenging surf crossings and beach launches from The Pass, Byron Bay
  • Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance, servicing, and repairs across our boats and support vehicles

About you

  • Current Coxswain NC 1 or higher and experience in handling small-sized vessels (6.8m vessels)
  • Experience in the marine tourism industry required (scuba diving and snorkelling experience preferred)
  • Expertise in reading ocean surf and making sound, confident navigational calls
  • Proven background in beach launches and navigating surf zone entries/exits
  • Experience in fast paced, high pressure situations
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical experience servicing marine engines and fleet equipment
  • Proven commercial vessel operating experience
  • Strong commitment to passenger safety and safety management procedures
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a tourism-focused team
  • Current first aid, CPR, advanced resuscitation, radio and other relevant commercial marine certifications (or willing to obtain)
  • Reliable, professional attitude and flexible availability, including weekends and public holidays
