Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and guest-focused Chinese-Speaking Marine Biologist to join our team at Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.

The position combines marine biology, conservation and guest education with water-based activities in one of the most pristine marine environments in the Maldives.

The role is approximately 70% focused on the Ocean Lab and marine biology activities, and 30% on water activities through the Marine Experience Center.

Main Responsibilities – Ocean Lab & Marine Biology (70%)

– Support the daily operations and initiatives of the Ocean Lab.
– Conduct marine biology presentations, educational activities and guest experiences.
– Educate guests about Maldivian marine ecosystems, coral reefs, marine species and conservation.
– Participate in marine conservation, monitoring and research initiatives.
– Support data collection and documentation related to marine life and reef health.
– Engage with Chinese-speaking and international guests, making marine science accessible, interesting and enjoyable.
– Promote responsible interaction with the marine environment and sustainable practices.
– Collaborate with other resort departments on environmental and educational initiatives.

Water Activities – Marine Experience Center (30%)

– Lead guided snorkeling experiences.
– Conduct marine biology and snorkeling excursions.
– Participate in boat excursions and other marine activities.
– Assist with scuba diving activities within the limits of your diving certification.
– Provide marine-life interpretation during snorkeling, diving and boat excursions.
– Support the Marine Experience Center team with water activities when operationally required.
– Maintain the highest standards of guest service and water safety.

Minimum Requirements

– Fluent Mandarin Chinese
– English B2 level or above
– PADI Rescue Diver certification or equivalent Instructor is a plus
– Degree or relevant educational qualification in Marine Biology, Marine Science, Environmental Science or a related field
– Strong swimming and snorkeling skills
– Good knowledge of marine ecosystems and marine conservation
– Confident and engaging communication skills
– Comfortable interacting with guests in a luxury hospitality environment
– Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team
– Willingness to live and work on a remote island
– Minimum 12-month commitment

Preferred Qualifications

– PADI Divemaster or higher
– Previous experience in the Maldives or another tropical marine environment
– Experience with coral reef monitoring, marine conservation or research projects
– Experience leading guided snorkeling or marine biology excursions
– Previous luxury resort or hospitality experience

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about marine science and conservation but who also enjoys being in the water and interacting with guests.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable discussing coral reef ecology in the Ocean Lab, guiding guests on a snorkeling excursion, or supporting the team during a scuba diving or boat experience.
