  • Helping customers with basic sizing and fit for masks, fins, boots, wetsuits, gloves, hoods, BCDs, regulators, dive computers, and other equipment
  • Preparing, issuing, checking in, rinsing, drying, and organizing rental gear
  • Inspecting rental gear for obvious damage and reporting anything that needs service or attention
  • Keeping the rental room, wet gear area, dry gear storage, classroom, and sales floor clean and organized
  • Assisting with local dive sign-ups, Isles of Shoals seal dives, guided shore dives, boat dives, club dives, and travel trips
  • Helping communicate basic trip details such as meeting times, locations, required gear, and what customers should bring
  • Moving and organizing scuba tanks as needed
  • Helping check tanks in and out and assisting with fill station workflow when properly trained
  • Accepting gear for service, tagging equipment, collecting customer information, and keeping service items organized
  • Restocking shelves, organizing displays, cleaning counters, sweeping, taking out trash, and helping maintain a professional shop appearance
  • Assisting with shop events, Discover Scuba events, club events, dive nights, community events, newsletters, social media ideas, and promotions
  • Helping enter customer information, take payments, update sign-up sheets, print forms, file paperwork, and keep records organized

Skills and Qualities Needed

The ideal employee should be friendly, professional, reliable, and on time. They should be comfortable speaking with customers, willing to learn, detail-oriented, safety-minded, and able to work well as part of a team.

The employee should enjoy diving, the ocean, and helping people get involved in scuba. They should be willing to help wherever needed, whether that means working with customers, cleaning gear, organizing rentals, helping with classes, or keeping the shop running smoothly.

Physical Requirements

This position may require lifting and carrying scuba tanks, rental gear, wetsuits, weights, and boxes of inventory. Employees may be on their feet for long periods and may work around wet floors, gear rinsing areas, and outdoor conditions during dive events.

Required Qualification

Applicants must be at least a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

Retail or customer service experience is helpful. Knowledge of scuba gear, dive travel, boats, swimming, or outdoor recreation is also helpful. A willingness to continue learning about diving, dive equipment, and shop operations is important.
