Divemaster Internship & Zero-to-Hero Professional Development Program

At Gozo Azul Diving, we believe that becoming a dive professional is about far more than earning a certification. It is about developing confidence, gaining real-world experience, building leadership skills, and learning what it takes to operate within a professional dive center environment.

Our Divemaster Internship is a structured, hands-on professional development program based in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique. Whether you are already a certified Rescue Diver looking to become a Divemaster, or you are starting your diving journey from the very beginning, we offer a pathway designed to help you achieve your goals while gaining valuable experience in one of Africa’s most exciting dive destinations.

The Divemaster Internship

The Divemaster Internship is designed for certified Rescue Divers who are ready to take the next step into professional diving. Throughout the program, you will work alongside experienced PADI Instructors and mentors while developing the skills required to become a confident and capable dive leader.

Training combines classroom sessions, practical workshops, ocean dives, skill development, dive center operations, conservation activities, and real-world experience assisting with recreational and training dives.

During the internship you will learn:

  • Dive leadership and supervision
  • Conducting dive briefings and debriefings
  • Risk assessment and diver safety
  • Underwater navigation
  • Dive site mapping projects
  • Assisting instructors during courses
  • Guiding certified divers
  • Equipment preparation and maintenance
  • Cylinder handling and compressor operations
  • Customer service and dive center administration
  • Problem solving and diver management
  • Professional dive planning and logistics

The goal is to provide you with the knowledge, confidence, and experience required to work as a professional Divemaster anywhere in the world.

The Zero-to-Hero Program

For those with little or no diving experience, our Zero-to-Hero program offers a complete pathway from beginner diver to professional Divemaster.

This program is typically completed over approximately three months and includes all core recreational certifications required before beginning Divemaster training.

The training pathway includes:

  • PADI Open Water Diver
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
  • Emergency First Response (EFR)
  • PADI Rescue Diver
  • PADI Divemaster

Along the way, candidates gain the experience necessary to meet the minimum dive requirements while developing confidence and competence in a variety of diving conditions.

Additional Specialties & Professional Development

Many candidates choose to expand their experience through additional specialty training and conservation-focused courses during their internship.

Depending on your chosen package, these may include:

  • PADI Enriched Air Nitrox
  • PADI Deep Diver
  • PADI Fish Identification
  • PADI Underwater Naturalist
  • PADI Shark AWARE
  • PADI Dive Against Debris
  • Marine conservation and citizen science activities
  • Reef monitoring projects
  • Marine life identification workshops
  • Environmental awareness initiatives through our PADI Eco Center

These additional courses provide valuable experience and help create a well-rounded dive professional.

Life at the Dive Center

As an intern, you become part of the team and gain insight into the daily operations of a professional dive center.

A typical week may include:

  • Ocean dives on local reefs
  • Assisting with student training
  • Guiding certified divers under supervision
  • Equipment workshops
  • Dive planning sessions
  • Conservation activities
  • Dive theory development
  • Marine life presentations
  • Boat launch and recovery operations
  • Customer interaction and dive logistics

Every day is different, providing a genuine understanding of how a successful dive center operates.

Diving in Ponta do Ouro

Located within the Ponta do Ouro Marine Protected Area, our dive center provides access to some of Mozambique’s most exciting diving.

The area is known for:

  • Unbaited shark diving
  • Turtle nesting beaches
  • Rich marine biodiversity
  • Warm Indian Ocean waters

These conditions provide an ideal environment for gaining professional diving experience.

Important Information

Our Divemaster Internship and Zero-to-Hero programs are professional training programs and are not volunteer placements or work-exchange opportunities.

We do not offer free training, sponsored positions, internships in exchange for labor, accommodation-for-work arrangements, or work-exchange programs.

All candidates enroll as paying students and participate in a structured training program designed to provide professional-level education, mentorship, and practical experience.

This ensures that every participant receives the highest standard of training, support, and individual attention throughout their development as a dive professional.
